Step by Step
1. Choosing Fabrics
Select shades of red and floral or plaid prints for the hearts and borders, and a neutral fabric (beige or white) for the background. This will highlight the design and provide contrast.
2. Cutting the Border Squares
Cut 10 x 10 cm squares from the red patterned fabrics.
These squares will form the side border of the runner.
Arrange them alternating colors and prints to create a beautiful visual effect.
3. Preparing the Backing
Cut a strip of neutral fabric approximately 40 cm wide and the desired length for your table runner.
This section will be where the hearts will be applied.

4. Patterns and Cutting the Hearts
Use a large heart pattern to cut the red fabrics.
Make at least 4 or 5 hearts, varying between plain and patterned.
Iron each heart to ensure it fits snugly.
5. Applying the Hearts
Place the hearts on the central strip of neutral fabric.
Secure with temporary fabric glue or pins.
Sew a buttonhole or zigzag stitch around each heart, securing them to the bottom.
6. Assembling the Track
Join the strips of squares (borders) next to the center strip with the hearts.
Sew first on one side, then on the other, keeping the seams even.
Iron well to set the seams.
7. Assembling the Blanket and Lining
Assemble like a “sandwich”:
Lining (wrong side up),
Acrylic blanket,
Top (patchwork with hearts, right side up).
Secure everything with pins or temporary spray.
8. Quilt
Quilt (decorative stitching) to join all the layers.
You can use free-form quilting in curves, as in the example image, which mimics arabesques.
This adds texture and enhances the work.
9. Bias Finishing
Cut strips of red fabric to create the bias finish.
Sew around the entire runner for the finishing touch.
Final Result
You’ll have a romantic and sophisticated table runner, with red hearts applied to a light background and colorful square borders.
Ideal for dinner parties, Valentine’s Day, Christmas, or even to add a touch of charm to your everyday home.
